on our second day in normandy
we woke up bright and early
and set out for our day of adventure...
our first stop was
the american cemetery at omaha beach.
i wasn't prepared for the reaction i felt.
i thought i was,
but nothing really could prepare you.
i cannot put it into words...
we continued on to pointe du hoc...
and sainte mairie du mont...
and then to utah beach...
“Chant d’Automne” de Paul Verlaine
Les sanglots longs
Des violons
De l’automne
Blessent mon cœur
D’une langueur
Monotone.
Tout suffocant
Et blême, quand
Sonne l’heure,
Je me souviens
Des jours anciens
Et je pleure;
Et je m’en vais
Au vent mauvais
Qui m’emporte
Deçà, delà,
Pareil à la
Feuille morte.

here is the english translation...
The long laments
Of autumn’s
Violins
Wound my heart
With a monotone
Fatigue.
All suffocating
And pale, when
The hour chimes,
I remember
The old days
And I cry;
And I go
With the nasty wind
That is carrying me
Here and there
Similar to the
Falling leaf.
i will never forget the feeling i felt visiting
these places. haunting. sobering. breathtaking.

after gathering our thoughts and emotions
we traveled on to the village of bayeux
for the remainder of the day...
here we were to see
the bayeux tapestry, the bayeux cathedral
and have dinner
at a sweet little restaurant called
le moulin de la galette
we also stopped at a cider farm
and a biscuit factory.
we tasted the local drink called calvados
and ate way too many chocolate covered biscuits.

I have said it to you before but I have to say it yet again, The way you capture photos shows your passion and love for those places or people. These ae "somber" reflective photos and can almost see your tears through them. Thank you for sharing! When I was in Paris at Versailles I sobbed like a baby and had no clue whatsoever why. I felt silly but I could not stop it. Thank you for sharing Grace xoox
