also picked up a vintage linen hemp coverlet for my bed that is "to live for"...when i am finished sprucing up my master bedroom i will post pics ; )
while at the long beach flea market i wandered into 3 booths that made my heart race to the point of almost passing out...you know the feeling...don'tcha???
this linen roll you see above had me at "hello"...i was cradling it in my arms and stroking it against my cheek repeating "my precious" in the voice of gollum from lord of the rings. yeah...the people in the booth thought i had lost it.
one of the fellas has an ebay store...you can check it out here
this old photo album was calling my name also...it was filled with beautiful cabinet cards...she came home with me too ; )
here is my creation from the class i took with julie haymaker thompson...i went in a different direction with my project and am happy with how it came out. it makes me smile when i look at it! julie is so generous with her knowledge. her spirit shines and lights up the whole room and just makes you feel so alive and empowered! thanks julie! you are the best!
here is my creation from lisa kettell's class...a little fairy doll! lisa is a fun gal...my new jersey homegirl! hee hee...new york...new jersey...we are representin'! too funny.
okay...now for the class that made me cry. yes...you heard it right. ruth rae's class brought me to tears. let me explain dear friends. i am the type of person that usually creates symmetrically. so when i started this fabric cuff i had a central (focal) point and then began making the left and right sides identical. i wasn't happy with how it was coming out so i ripped everything off and just sat there. i must have had this look on my face of utter despair b/c my friend was asking me if i was ok. i really was struggling with this but was determined to break out of my shell. it is often so difficult to go outside of our comfort zones...but this is where we learn and grow. i enjoyed this class so much and really learned alot. here is the cuff i created in ruth's class...
and here is another one i made when i got home...it's a gift for my sister-in-law claudia...i used elements from the class kit julie gave us along with some vintage bits i had in my stash...
more pics tomorrow! this post is too long! have a great day my friends!!
So, I was in Los Angeles for the weekend. But I was leaving on Monday, September 21. I had to be at the airport by 1 pm. BUT…I knew that French General was celebrating their reopening that day (I follow Kaari’s blog like a hawk)…so, what’s a girl to do? Well…she asks the lovely Kaari Meng to “please open early that day” so she can come with a group of gals and shop til their hearts almost stop! We had a wonderful morning at this most delightful shoppe.
Treasures at every turn…vintage linen nightgowns, French hemp sheets, glorious bits and baubles, trims, ribbons and buttons galore. Antique pharmacy labels, Victorian scrap, prize ribbons, bingo cards, French enamel signs and more, more, more!
A feast for the senses!
Thank you Kaari and the rest of the girls…it was a highlight of my LA trip! I will be back!!!!
